Beta versions of character designs, concepts, and other things that required a few test runs before they were finalized.
I'll be splitting these by character, as it varies quite a bit.
Kara Dabria
The first attempt at a colored Kara I drew. Blacksmith, a rather basic outfit at that, with the straight hair. Honestly, I think she looks like a background character in this iteration. I love her mask for the gown though.
A second test, from around a year later. This is where the curly hair became more of a core feature.
The first Damien and Kara ever drawn for the project, the very night of its inception. It amazes me how these two both get buff later, because they sort of look like children here.
Damien Vasquez
The first Damien ever drawn, and the artwork I referenced for this section's icon. He was originally based on the mad inventor archetype and clung stronger to the steampunk elements, and was actually meant to be a cosplay hypothetical. The arm was referenced from Lost Wax's tutorial, and the rest was meant to be either made or picked up somehow. Sort of a pipe dream idea that became a character. Neat idea, I might retool it later.
Damien still sort of embodies that archetype, it's just more alchemy flavored.
Damien's first reference. His color palette was kind of fucked here and it somehow took me several months of looking back at it to realize that it needed work. Also his scar diagram was REALLY hard to parse and needed an update. And those goggles are massive. Another one of those pieces where all I can do when I look at it is point out my past mistakes.
For the most part, a lot of those aspects have stayed, in different forms.
Two tests at a scary-ish god idea. Didn't have the clearest idea on how, but I wanted the gods to have more of an eldritch look when they presented as gods.
Quick sketches of dream bubble Damiens, trying to get a feel for the different ways he could've potentially died during SBURB.
Tests for updated Damien and Cain designs, only one getting color because it was late and I was tired. Pre-bear, Cain wasn't quite there yet but I was trying to bring the smug upbeat asshole energy back in (and quite enjoyed it. i have color story ideas for him), Damien's palette has basically been solid this whole time and I tend to just tweak it every so often. That design actually carried over, because I liked the vibe of it so much that I wanted to keep trying at it.
Clementine Plunkett
An initial test for Clem's god tier. I refuse to stick to the usual Page look (it's one of the ugliest in my opinion), so I wanted her to look like more of a magical girl, since she'd technically be the first magical girl in their world.
I also messed around with the idea of her weapons at around the same time. Uni suggested her strifekind of choice being guitar strings on a whim, which I saw mountains of potential for because of how versatile it could be.
Juniper Frethirs
Working out June's final god tier. It's gone through a few similar variants, but I wanted this one to be a little more distinct. Heavy top half, slim interior without the capelet, setting it apart from the canon Muse design by changing the alignment of the closure. Mc said she looked like a fairy. I guess that sort of works?
Cain Southfield
The first sketch Onyx ever did of Cain following my initial test. Honestly not bad, the ponytail is sort of cute. Still looks like a child though.
The first shitpost, soon following Onyx's original test.
The first Cain and Cromwell EVER, done in the same night as the first Damien and Kara. All eye colors are placeholders, as this was still deep in the kidsona phase of early development and the gods had yet to be assigned unique colors, so their eye colors matched to the writers handling them.

Scenes and Environments
An early scene test done in a rather small notebook, probably the same night as those First Ever designs. I don't remember what this was supposed to be anymore.
A test for the idea of shrines scattered about the world, referencing the Minecraft server. Super early, given Damien's god tier garb had yet to fully depart from the classic Heir look and June's capelet still exposed part of her arms.
